Between Umbria and Tuscany
"Welcome to Pozzuolo
Discover the story of our land"
Pozzuolo is on the border of Tuscany and Umbria and is the most western part of the town of Castiglione del Lago. The town is of Etruscan origin, as evidenced by the countless discoveries and the optimum position where the Etruscans built their necropolis and Acropolis. During the Roman Period Pozzuolo became a Pagus – a main village.
At the end of the first millennium it was part of the duchy of Chiusi (year 964 records historian Mariotti), complete with a magistrate and judge.
In the parish church, dedicated to Saint Peter and Paul, who were baptized in 1247, later called Santa Margherita da Cortona but originated in Laviano, Pozzuolo, still it exists and is the visible birthplace and the church is dedicated to her.READ MORE
